Unmanned Aerial Systems

Drones - versatile for civil and military use

From monitoring power plants and maintaining technical equipment to delivering goods and supplies to areas that are difficult to access, drones offer solutions to major challenges - and they are well on the way to profoundly changing urban transportation systems.

One challenge is to safely integrate these unmanned aerial vehicles into civil airspace. Their growing numbers are also increasingly posing a safety challenge for air traffic. And of course, the principle of 'safety first' also applies here in aviation. That is why we urgently need to ensure the safe integration of drones into airspace, including commercial air traffic, which the BDLI is committed to.

The great potential of these new technologies can only be fully realized if the safe operation of drones of all types and sizes can be ensured and their application is accepted and supported by the general population.

The BDLI is committed to the sustainable and, above all, safe development of the market for unmanned aerial systems. It provides political support for their approval in regulated airspace and supports the development of proposals for national technology strategy and industrial policy. Additionally, the BDLI initiates national R&T funding programs for the UAS sector.

UAVs can also be used in a variety of military applications and are now indispensable as reconnaissance and surveillance systems. Equipped with advanced technology, unmanned aerial systems fly over the area of operation and use their sensors to capture real-time images of the situation on the ground. In this way, their reconnaissance results make a significant contribution to creating a comprehensive picture of the situation.
